Spring Update

Hey everyone,

Welcome back to 91.1 WMUA. I hope you all had a great winter break and are excited for the upcoming spring semester. We have all sorts of awesome music and events coming up in the next few months. I’ll be sending out my cool update emails every week or so. Over break I added a new section to the library called "Out of the Vault at WMUA" which has a bunch of records we have tucked away so they don't get stolen by greedy little bastards. I burned copies of these classics and are available to all you DJ's out there. They include albums by Tom Waits, Beastie Boys, Velvet Underground, Gang of Four, and much more. I still have a bunch to take care of, so if you want some easy service hours come on down and burn some CD's for me. If you have any questions or concerns my email is . If you want to speak with me face-to-face, my office hours are:

Monday/Wed/Fri 12-3pm

Feel free to come and help me out for service hours anytime! If you are busy during my office hours, shoot me an email and we can set up an appointment.

Of course all the weekly updates are available at:

WMUA Concert Series:

All in Northampton, MA

In conjunction with the Iron Horse Entertainment Group, I am pleased to announce the Left of the Dial Concert Series, brought to you by us (WMUA) and WOZQ (Smith College). We’ll be cross-promoting each other in all sorts of ways. It’s all the better since a lot of these bands are ‘on the rise’ and should be receiving as much help as possible. Please play these bands on their shows where appropriate. The “bands coming to the area section” located in the new music part of the library should have all these band’s records in there. DJ’s, heads up on giving away tickets, make sure you check the giveaway binder in the MCR. Also, a PSA is going to be made today for the first two shows of the series, so please play that up. Watch out for interviews or in-studios, let me know if you are interested in doing that for your show with any of these bands! Contact Sharon at if you want to table at any of these. Contact me at if you want to go to any of these shows for free and I’ll try my best. First come, first serve, of course.

10 Recommended albums of the week:

*= playing locally, see concert listing at bottom

The Pack A. D. - Tintype

For fans of: The White Stripes, The Kills, Sleater-Kinney, The Black Keys

*Jeffrey Lewis – 12 Crass Songs

Covers of punk band Crass. FFO: The Moldy Peaches, Daniel Johnston

*Xiu Xiu – Women as Lovers

FFO: The Books, Deerhoof, Joy Division, fucked up music in general

One of the best bands out there. My favorite record so far this year.

Fred Thomas – Flood

FFO: Animal Collective, Jonathan Richman, The Microphones

*Jason Collett – Here’s to Being Here

FFO: The Band, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, Broken Social Scene

Rivers Cuomo – Alone: The Home Recordings

It’s old Weezer, so it’s pretty good, as opposed to the garbage known as new Weezer.

Baby Dee – Safe Inside the Day

Her backing band includes: Bonnie Prince Billy, Matt Sweeney on guitar and Andrew WK on drums. She sounds like Tom Waits!

King of Prussia – Save the Scene

FFO: The Clientele, Belle and Sebastian

Mike Ladd - Nostalgilator

A genre hopping spectacle from Def Jux. In the RPM section, play it up.
