Over break I added a new section to the library called "Out of the Vault at WMUA" which has a bunch of records we have tucked away so they don't get stolen by greedy little bastards. I burned copies of these classics and are available to all you DJ's out there. They include albums by Tom Waits, Beastie Boys, Velvet Underground, Gang of Four, and much more. I still have a bunch to take care of, so if you want some easy service hours come on down and burn some CD's for me.<span style=""> </span>If you have any questions or concerns my email is <a href="mailto:music@wmua.org">music@wmua.org</a> .<span style=""> </span>If you want to speak with me face-to-face, my office hours are:</p> <p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p> <p class="MsoNormal">Monday/Wed/Fri <st1:time minute="0" hour="12">12-3pm</st1:time></p> <p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p> <p class="MsoNormal">Feel free to come and help me out for service hours anytime!<span style=""> </span>If you are busy during my office hours, shoot me an email and we can set up an appointment.<span style=""> </span></p> <p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p> <p class="MsoNormal">Thanks,</p> <p class="MsoNormal">Corey</p> <p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> Of course all the weekly updates are available at:<br /></o:p></p> <p class="MsoNormal"><b style="">WMUA Concert Series</b>:</p> <p class="MsoNormal">All in <st1:place><st1:city>Northampton</st1:City>, <st1:state>MA</st1:State></st1:place></p> <p class="MsoNormal">In conjunction with the Iron Horse Entertainment Group, I am pleased to announce the Left of the Dial Concert Series, brought to you by us (WMUA) and WOZQ (<st1:place><st1:placename>Smith</st1:PlaceName> <st1:placetype>College</st1:PlaceType></st1:place>).<span style=""> </span>We’ll be cross-promoting each other in all sorts of ways.<span style=""> </span>It’s all the better since a lot of these bands are ‘on the rise’ and should be receiving as much help as possible.<span style=""> </span>Please play these bands on their shows where appropriate.<span style=""> </span>The “bands coming to the area section” located in the new music part of the library should have all these band’s records in there.<span style=""> </span>DJ’s, heads up on giving away tickets, make sure you check the giveaway binder in the MCR.<span style=""> </span>Also, a PSA is going to be made today for the first two shows of the series, so please play that up.<span style=""> </span>Watch out for interviews or in-studios, let me know if you are interested in doing that for your show with any of these bands!<span style=""> </span>Contact <st1:city><st1:place>Sharon</st1:place></st1:City> at <a href="mailto:publicity@wmua.org">publicity@wmua.org</a> if you want to table at any of these.<span style=""> </span>Contact me at <a href="mailto:music@wmua.org">music@wmua.org</a> if you want to go to any of these shows for free and I’ll try my best.<span style=""> </span>First come, first serve, of course.<span style=""> </span><br /> <!--[if !supportLineBreakNewLine]--><br /> <!--[endif]--></p> <p class="MsoNormal">Feb 28 – Cadence Weapon and Born Ruffians at the Iron Horse</p> <p class="MsoNormal">March 1 – Bowerbirds and Phosphorescent at the Iron Horse</p> <p class="MsoNormal">March 6 – Tigercity, Via Audio and the Thungs at the Iron Horse</p> <p class="MsoNormal">March 13 – The Mountain Goats and The Moaners at the <st1:street><st1:address>Pearl Street</st1:address></st1:Street> Ballroom</p> <p class="MsoNormal">March 24 – Why? and Cryptacize (Ex-Deerhoof) at the Iron Horse</p> <p class="MsoNormal">March 25 – Caribou and Fuck Buttons at the Iron Horse</p> <p class="MsoNormal">April 12 – The Weakerthans and Liam Finn at the Iron Horse</p> <p class="MsoNormal">April 23 – American Music Club and the Figments at the Iron Horse</p> <p class="MsoNormal">May 18 – The Silver Mt. I laughed for twenty minutes.<br /></p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-left: 0.25in;">Amanda Blank showed up, she’s pretty cute.</p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-left: 0.25in;">Spank Rock put on the most energetic, amazing performance of the year, and possibly of my life.<br /></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-left: 0.25in;">I'm pretty sure all the people on stage had at least a handle or wine bottle in their vicinity and many blunts were ablaze at all times, lending a hand in Yo Majesty's boobies popping out. If these activities don't sound fun to you, then don't go to a Spank Rock show ever. For those of you with souls, any time Spank Rock is available for a concert in your area, make sure you attend.</p><p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-left: 0.25in;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://photos-c.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sf2p/v141/5/30/9118207/n9118207_35019598_5829.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px;" src="http://photos-c.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sf2p/v141/5/30/9118207/n9118207_35019598_5829.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-left: 0.25in;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://photos-207.ll.facebook.com/photos-ll-sf2p/v141/5/30/9118207/n9118207_35019606_7085.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px;" src="http://photos-207.ll.facebook.com/photos-ll-sf2p/v141/5/30/9118207/n9118207_35019606_7085.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a></p><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://photos-c.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sf2p/v141/5/30/9118207/n9118207_35019594_5246.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px;" src="http://photos-c.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sf2p/v141/5/30/9118207/n9118207_35019594_5246.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://photos-207.ll.facebook.com/photos-ll-sf2p/v141/5/30/9118207/n9118207_35019610_7679.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px;" src="http://photos-207.ll.facebook.com/photos-ll-sf2p/v141/5/30/9118207/n9118207_35019610_7679.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a><br />2. Band of Horses/Wolf Parade/Modest Mouse<br /><br />August 18 at the Download Festival at the Tweeter Center in Mansfield, MA<br /><br />Other people played (Guster, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Neko Case), but only those three really brought anything interesting to the table. Band of Horses previewed some tracks from their new record, Cease to Begin. Wolf Parade, one of my favorite bands of all-time, played a set composed mostly of their new material, which should be released in early '08. If the performance is any indication of what to expect on the record then it will be one of my favorites of 2008. Also, a jaw-dropping version of "I'll Believe in Anything," from "Apologies to the Queen Mary," made me almost cry with joy. Modest Mouse put up one of the better sets I've seen them play. Plus the crowd almost didn't suck, like most Isaac Brock and Co. shows.<br /><br />3. Man Man<br /><br />Opening for Modest Mouse on May 2 at Lupo's Heartbreak Hotel, Providence, RI<br /><br />I've never seen an opener steal a show from the main act as easily as Man Man did in Providence. It didn't help I almost got into a fight during Modest Mouse, but boy did they kind of suck. Their encore almost saved the day as they played the first two tracks <span style="text-decoration: underline;"><span style="font-weight: bold;"></span></span>from This is a Long Drive for Someone with Nothing to Think About, Dramamine and Breakthrough. If they had only played Talking Shit About a Pretty Sunset...<br /><br />5. Islands/Saturday Looks Good to Me/ A bunch of other pretty great bands<br /><br />The Brooklyn Vegan Showcase at the R-Bar on October 26<br /><br />The Brooklyn Vegan Showcase had 7 or 8 bands, the very best being at the end. Saturday Looks Good to Me, who I hadn't ever listened to (sad, I know), played some of their new material from Fill Up the Room, out of K Records. Islands came next and played a bunch of new material, which happened to sound a lot darker and sinister and wonderful, much like some of the Unicorns material. Oh yeah, and Subtitle showed up for "Where There's a Will There's a Whalebone."<br />Saturday Looks Good to Me:<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://photos-d.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sf2p/v141/5/30/9118207/n9118207_35019575_2514.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px;" src="http://photos-d.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sf2p/v141/5/30/9118207/n9118207_35019575_2514.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://photos-b.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sf2p/v141/5/30/9118207/n9118207_35019573_2245.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px;" src="http://photos-b.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sf2p/v141/5/30/9118207/n9118207_35019573_2245.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a>Islands:<br /><a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9-psC4M2qaY">Where There's A Will There's A Whalebone</a><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://photos-b.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sf2p/v141/5/30/9118207/n9118207_35019585_3903.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px;" src="http://photos-b.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sf2p/v141/5/30/9118207/n9118207_35019585_3903.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://photos-a.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sf2p/v141/5/30/9118207/n9118207_35019584_3768.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px;" src="http://photos-a.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sf2p/v141/5/30/9118207/n9118207_35019584_3768.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><span style="font-weight: bold;"><span style="font-weight: bold;"><span style="font-style: italic;"><span style="font-weight: bold;"><span style="font-style: italic;"><br /></span></span></span></span></span></span><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://photos-b.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sf2p/v141/5/30/9118207/n9118207_35019585_3903.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px;" src="http://photos-b.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sf2p/v141/5/30/9118207/n9118207_35019585_3903.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://photos-a.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sf2p/v141/5/30/9118207/n9118207_35019584_3768.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px;" src="http://photos-a.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sf2p/v141/5/30/9118207/n9118207_35019584_3768.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://photos-b.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sf2p/v141/5/30/9118207/n9118207_35019581_3356.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px;" src="http://photos-b.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sf2p/v141/5/30/9118207/n9118207_35019581_3356.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://photos-c.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sf2p/v141/5/30/9118207/n9118207_35019578_2922.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px;" src="http://photos-c.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sf2p/v141/5/30/9118207/n9118207_35019578_2922.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a><br />6. Update 3<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="">Hey everyone,<o:p></o:p></span></p> <p class="MsoNormal"><span style=""><span style=""> </span> After two weeks of doing weekly emails I caved in and decided to start up a blog for new music.<span style=""> </span>The past two weeks are up, plus a few goofy videos I had up there way back in June. <span style=""> </span>The URL is: <a href="http://fallenthroughthecracks.blogspot.com/">http://fallenthroughthecracks.blogspot.com/</a> <span style=""> </span>Feel free to send it to friends who are into music.<o:p></o:p></span></p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: 0.5in;"><span style=""><span style=""></span><span style=""></span>It’s been acting sketchy when I tried posting some youtube videos, so bear with me as I work through the kinks.<span style=""> </span><o:p></o:p><span style=""></span></span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: 0.5in;"><span style=""><span style=""></span>Also, at the bottom are the charts from not only the rock department, but from Jazz, Hip Hop, World, RPM, and Loud Rock.<span style=""> </span><o:p><br /></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: 0.5in;"><span style=""> Just in time for the bitter cold weather, I’ve declared that it’s sad bastard week here at WMUA, as I received and added the reissues of the two <a href="http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=6041327">Joy Division</a> recordings, located in the new music section.<span style=""> </span>If you like that band <a href="http://www.myspace.com/interpol">Interpol</a>, then I would recommend checking out some Joy Division.<span style=""> </span>And if you aren’t <a href="http://www.daytrotter.com/article/68/free-songs-casiotone">sad</a> enough after listening to Joy Division, save some time for <a href="http://www.myspace.com/cftpa">Casiotone for the Painfully Alone</a>.<span style=""> </span>I put his first three albums, plus an EP, in the <b style="">New to WMUA section</b>, located next to the <b style="">classic/essential</b> <b style="">records</b> section, below the <b style="">new music section</b>.<span style=""> </span><span style=""> </span><o:p></o:p></span></p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: 0.5in;"><span style="">I bought the records when I saw <a href="http://www.daytrotter.com/article/1055/ghost-towns-can-be-people-too">Casiotone for the Painfully Alone</a> perform out in </span><st1:place><st1:city><span those pictures on the blog this weekend.<span style=""> </span>Look out for the ID he did for the station in spotbox in the upcoming week!<o:p></o:p></span></p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: 0.5in;"><span style="">In other news, <a href="http://www.myspace.com/bandofhorses">Band of Horses</a>, on Wed. night, was a rousing success.<span style=""> </span>I was told that several people came to the show because they heard our promotions on WMUA.<span style=""> </span>Thanks to everyone who played the PSA, talked about it on their shows, and gave away tickets.<span style=""> </span>I also have pictures from that show I’ll post up this weekend, too.<span style=""> </span><o:p></o:p></span></p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: 0.5in;"><span style="">Thanks for all the nice feedback, keep it coming, and have a great long weekend,<o:p></o:p></span></p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: 0.5in;"><span style="">Corey<o:p></o:p></span></p> <p
